Beadlam Grange is a mixed farm of 300 acres. It is home to our 100 Limousin suckler cows and produces all the beef for the Farmshop; see the article on our commitment to quality on the Limousin Magazine website. 150 acres is down to grass, permanent & 2 year grass leys for silage which is fed to our cows and calves. Fodder beet is grown to feed in winter and 20 acres is let off for potato production. We grow 120 acres of grain. All wheat is sold and barley is fed to finishing stock.
Weaner pigs are reared on a bed & breakfast arrangement both inside and outside for Ian Mosey Livestock Ltd. Approximately 1000 tons of garden waste is composted annually which we take from Ryedale District Council. Once composted the garden waste provides a valuable soil conditioner for the land as well as valuable income from the local authority. Major financial savings are made from two biomass boilers which produce all the heating and hot water for the Farmshop, Tearoom and Farmhouse.
